The Path

It wasn't just a path
through the woods
connecting two houses.
It was a lifetime
connection of the heart
It saw children skipping through the trees
dragging toys, and pets.
It saw a careless baseball mitt
dropped in route or
a soccer ball
left to winter's white blanket
This little path
connected morning coffee's
that shared laughter, and tears.
It saw teenagers trudging
back and forth,
listening to music, laughing
dragging their belongings
from one house to the other.
This little path had become
a well worn track
through life.
A stranger would never see
the great joys,
and great sorrows
that were shared between
these two houses
Nor would they know
that this little path
had once been a life line
that connected the
hearts and souls
 of two families forever
